Salut!
I love a good story – whether it’s spoken between friends, imagined in a quiet moment, or on a page in a novel. In a perfect world, every story would be in my favorite language – French – and I would be able to understand every word and nuance. But I am not a native French speaker by any means. I spent most of my childhood in Brazil, the daughter of a Taiwanese diplomat, and went to college in the US.
I first began to study French at 12 and continued hit and miss for years. Now I am back at it, and my proficiency has advanced to beginner’s C1. I am spending more time in France these days, and I have fallen even more in love with all things French – food, champagne, lifestyle and, especially, the language. I love to speak it, and I LOVE to read in French!
So… if you’re curious about diving into French novels as a non-native speaker, you’re in the right place. I’m going to share every book I read – books I loved because of the stories and characters, as well as novels which challenged my language skills, but I still managed to finish and actually enjoy. My hope is that we can have a real dialogue about the books, the challenges, and the rewards – as much en français as possible, but with a little English when we need it!
Come read avec moi !
– Cristina
